Happy autumn everyone!
This year has been a busy one for all of our team, both on site and off. Several members of the volunteer group are continuing with their studies, from BA to PhD level. We welcomed Lu as a new volunteer in April (often accompanied by her handy wife, Rey, who lends a hand when able) and she has now joined our Management Committee.
Rebecca’s archaeology presentation received an A grade and we’d like to offer her a huge congratulations from all of us here at Caer Alyn. Alan is due to give a talk on Wat’s Dyke on the 15th of September, which will give the site a little more visibility.
The main project for 2018 has been continuing to excavate and record CAYA1. This trench is a bit of an enigma; we have jumped from suspected post holes to possible burial in the space of months!
We cleaned down the trench at the start of spring and continued to expand, record and dig. Our finds will be recorded this winter and we can then begin to piece the picture together more thoroughly.
We are polishing off our finds database, which will be available on the website soon, and our new website is now live at http://www.caeralyn.com. Some of our photographs from 2018 are included in our new gallery, and you can see more on our Facebook page.
As winter is coming, our attention will likely turn towards indoor activities and recording processes. We will keep you in the loop with anything we discover or theorise.
As always, thanks to all of you who follow, help and volunteer your time. We’re looking forward to a settled winter and a renewed push in 2019. Why not come join us?
Have a great autumn season!
