On Monday 29th of October 2018, we began a resistivity survey of the field in front of the Iron Age fort at Caer Alyn. The grids are being placed close to the supposed line of Wat’s Dyke. A few years ago, the same area was surveyed by Alan Brown and Annabelle Rogers however, this time instead of placing 20 x20 metre grids, we are using 10 x10 metre grids and measuring every half metre. We are looking for any new features which may have been missed from the last time.
We are involving our younger volunteers and their families. They have now placed the first 10 x 10 grid and the results are interesting. The former football field has been picked up (as a white low resistance feature) See Figure 1, but we have noticed some unusual circular features roughly 2 metres across. The youngsters did a wonderful job and we are very grateful for their help and hope they will come back soon to help!

We are intending to carry on this winter, surveying this area. The CAYA 1 trench will be closed later this month and resumed in the spring. In the mean time we have plenty to do! We are going to continue with CAYA 1 post excavation finds and to finish writing the interim report on the trench…. hopefully!
