We must offer our congratulations to our director Alan Brown for achieving his Masters in Archaeology and Heritage!!We are so pleased for Alan as he has worked extremely hard over the last two years while working full time!
Alan can be seen here working on our new trench behind the Stable Field at Caer Alyn. The trench has produced very few finds but we have uncovered many burnt rocks and a possible circular feature that has very orange/red soil. So it’s very intriguing. Do we have an industrial area or just uncovered an area that was used for burning rubbish? Hopefully we will find out more as the summer progresses.
Our CAYA 1 trench is still a mystery. We have uncovered a line of stones that appear to be curving with several post holes but very few finds have been found. Some VCP ceramics were found with the fill of a large post hole but nothing to definitely date a context below the top agricultural one.
Laura is cleaning back part of CAYA 1 close to the large post hole.
The finds from the CAYA 1 have been processed and the data set has been updated so we are starting to get our information together for the interim report at last!

Finally we would like to say a big thank you to all our volunteers for their hard work! Tho photo shows the Bronze Age tumulus at Caer Alyn within it’s stunning surroundings!
