This last June our Caer Alyn group had a big shock when we found out that Alan Brown, our archaeological director, had his lower left leg amputated. Alan has been poorly since, at least, last Christmas. However, he is recovering well now and is hoping that he can visit Caer Alyn in a couple of weeks time using his wheelchair.
Unfortunately we have not had planned our two week dig this year due to Alan’s unfortunate circumstances. Our young volunteer Erin, who was due to have a week with us, had the opportunity to go to the community dig in Newtown, Powys run by Heneb in early July. Erin really enjoyed it so we would like to thank Chris Matthews (Heneb) for suggesting it!
We have been re- evaluating our old trenches 14 and 14A. Trench 14 was last dug about 2012 when our group was larger. The finds indicate medieval and early post medieval activity. The chamber found probably was a root store rather than a corn drying kiln. We are still examining the finds and some areas of the trench.
We will update you later this year.
